Frank Limestealer

Frank Montclair — known as Frank “Limestealer” for his reputation for undercutting rival quarry operators and stealing their limes — founded the settlement of Limestealer in 1622 using inherited Montclair family capital, approximately 12 generations after Ava Montclair’s death. The nickname supplanted his family name in common use and became the permanent record. A memorial statue was built after his death in 1647 but has since been overbuilt by railway tracks and modern construction during Luxemburg’s industrial expansion.

Background

A distant descendant of the Montclair merchant family, which had operated trade networks in the former Lachsenhausen territory for centuries following Ava Montclair’s death in 1249. Frank’s branch of the family had settled around the iron and quartz deposits in the southwest. His founding of Limestealer used capital accumulated across those generations of Montclair trade.

History

Founded Limestealer in 1622 to research technology for mining and industrial processes. Died in 1647. A memorial statue was constructed in his honour and stood in the settlement he built. By the modern era the statue has been enclosed by railway infrastructure and surrounding buildings, no longer publicly visible.
